Historic Buildings are part of a story, a story of creativity & passion of the designer, a story of craftsmen, materials & techniques, a story of families & generations.

The deeper we investigate & appreciate, these stories come alive & if preserved, can be handed down to inspire & teach future generations.

It’s important to realise that Historic houses are not static, they are not historical museums, but living entities, adopting & improving over generations & in return offering comfort & shelter.

It’s important to continue maintaining, restoring, & indeed upgrading an historic house, just as past generations have done before, ensuring it is a comfortable homes for families & comfortable in itself as it lives on to share it’s evolving story & service to future generations.

Work carried out to a Listed Building will very often require a Listed Building Consent Application to be made to Historic Environment Division (HED) via the local Planning Department before work commences.

All work carried out should be based on the principle of Conservation ie. minimum intervention, keep & restore what is good, & where possible repair rather than replace, use of appropriate materials & methods. When in doubt consult with HED.
